Customizing Your Personal Page With Your Story

You can add your story to your Personal Page to tell why you are participating in this fundraising event. We know, from experience, that a compelling Web page will attract and engage people who visit your site to support you with donations.

The Body section of the Personal Page work area contains a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) content editor that accepts standard HTML coding. To enter content, you can manually type it directly into this editor or paste it in from a plain-text based editor, such as Notepad.

Note: You may not be able to paste content in directly from other editors, such as Microsoft Word, that use their own formatting. You can save your Word file as a plain text file and then open and use that content.

Afte entering your content, you can use the editor tools to format and align the text, change the font and colors, add bullets to important points, and so on. For assistance, refer to Working in the Rich Text Editor.

Although you cannot add pictures in the editor area, you can add at least one photo or link to a video clip to your page to customize it further. Refer to Adding Photos or a Video Clip to Your Personal Page.

Step 1. Display Your Personal Page Work Area

After accessing your Participant Center Home page, click either:

  • Personal Page from the options along the top of the page.
  • Or, Work with Personal Page from the navigation links on the right side of the page.

Step 2: Add Your Story

  1. In the Body area editor pane, type or paste in your content.
  2. Use the formatting tools to customize the font, its size, its color, or alignment. For assistance, refer to Working in the Rich Text Editor.

Note: Although you cannot add hypertext links in the Rich Text Editor, you can add a link to a YouTube video.

  3. If the event allows, drag and drop a link or image from a web page into the WYSIWYG editor.

Note: You can also use the paste option from Microsoft Word to paste links into the WYSIWYG editor; however, you cannot paste images from Microsoft Word, and you cannot drag and drop images from the file system on your computer.

If the event does not allow drag and drop, any images or links you drag and drop into the WYSIWYG will not be saved and error message will display.

  4. To keep from losing your work, click Save (near the bottom of the page).

Step 3: Preview the Story on Your Page

Click Preview (near the bottom of the page). A separate browser window opens to display your Personal Page.

Step 4: Make Changes if Necessary

  1. Close the Preview page.
  2. Make your changes.
  3. Click Preview again.
  4. Repeat this step as many times as necessary.

Step 5: Save Your Story

When you are finished, click Save. The Personal Page content was saved successfully saved message displays across the top of the page.

Note: If changes to your Personal Page must be approved before your page is available in searches, watch your email for the message from an event administrator that informs you the page has been approved.

If you have made your page private while working on it, you should set it back to Public so it will be available to people who are searching for it.
